Stem-cell banking company leverages PK4's CRM solution for multi-locational sales and support.

Bangalore, August 1, 2006. A leading software products company from Bangalore, PK4 Software Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (www.zerocode.com) had developed an integrated sales and marketing customer relationship management solution for Lifecell, India, pioneers in umbilical cord cell banking worldwide.

LifeCell is a joint venture between Asia Cryo Cell Pvt Ltd and the world-renowned Cryo-Cell International, pioneers in umbilical cord cell banking worldwide. Focused on India and neighbouring countries, LifeCell plans to grow from 6 current offices to 15 in the region soon. This expansion was closely tied to growth in sales and operations, both in numbers of transactions and complexity. In order to ensure that the organization could handle such growth easily , LifeCell wanted to implement a software solution that handled both sales and some degree of product operations.

LifeCell managers had analyzed their business and operations and identified specific processes that are critical to their success. Gaining the mind-share of key market influencers like gynecologists, educating key personal influencers like siblings and parents and following up effectively with the expectant parents - all of these and more were very critical in making a successful sale. LifeCell wanted to automate as much of this as possible, including processes from the creation of "kits" for cord-cell collection all the way through lab processes and accounting of periodic payments.

The Impel base product (Corporate Edition) covered all of the customer's needs for the sales force, marketing and customer support. It also provided the framework for access in a browser, authentication, authorization, integration, reporting, scalability, etc. PK4 implemented specific product extensions for the customer to support custom work-flows and enhancements in existing functionality.

The normal license-to-customization costs ratio of 30:70 was completely upended by the use of zeroCode, bringing a large amount of custom functionality to the user. Net effect, the customer gained a complete CRM mechanism  with  integrated contact, calendar and opportunity management.

According to Mr Narasimhan Mandyam, CEO, PK4, "Lifecell needed much more than just a run-of-the-mill CRM solution. They wanted to integrate customer support and inventory management to handle queries and correspondence from customers, delivery and receipt of cord blood kits and much more. We were able to customize Impel to meet all Lifecell's requirements."

Impel covered account and lead management, contact management, reporting and analysis, data and content management.

Keeping in mind the specific requirements of a cord blood banking organization, PK4 integrated a state-of-the-art inventory management system, which had three main parts:

  • Dispatch of Marketing Collaterals from Stores to Center

  • Dispatch of Gifts from Stores to Center and Center to Client

  • Creation of Kits from the components using BOM

Business benefits to Lifecell included enhanced customer experience by improving relationships at all levels, increased sales by enabling salespeople to close deals in complex situations and a platform for future systems enhancement, both in sales-related areas and outside.
